Maresca argued that similar challenges in other matches had gone unpunished, yet his side was left to play with ten men. For him, the issue wasn’t the red card itself, but the uneven application of the rules across the league.
“It’s not about Caicedo’s dismissal,” Maresca explained. “It’s about consistency. If the same incident happens elsewhere and isn’t punished, then we have a problem.”
